Job Entry Plan

First Day

Goal:     The goal of the first day as a superintendent is to set the foundation for an atmosphere of high expectations, open communication, encouragement and support.

Objectives:
·         Take time during the initial district meeting to communicate my expectations and core values.  This will be done through some type of interactive activity to help staff members get to know me.
·         Celebrate the strengths of the district – be specific and show my appreciation for what they have already accomplished.
·         Present goals for the next year.  Let staff members know what I expect and where I want us to be by the end of the year.  These goals should include specific, measurable outcomes that can be reviewed at the end of the year.

First Week

Goal:     Prove my dedication to the district and my commitment to excellence through positive interactions with staff, students, parents and community members.

Objectives:
·         Make an effort throughout the week to have a personal conversation with every staff member in the district.  Begin developing relationships with the staff and provide them opportunities to learn who I am.
·         Attend each campus’ Meet the Teacher night to interact with parents and students and demonstrate my interest in every campus.
·         Conduct district walkthroughs and write positive notes to staff about what I am seeing.  Make a silent note of any issues that might need to be addressed so that you can address them when the time is right.
·         Greet students and parents on every campus at least once in the morning before school.
·         Meet with principals to review the first week of school and address any concerns they might have.

First Month

Goal:     Create a firm foundation of trust, loyalty and commitment to the school district in which staff, students and parents believe I am committed to the best interests of their school.

Objectives:
·         Continue to visit campuses and communicate with staff, students and parents.
·         Begin to compile a list of concerns in each area.
·         Address any pressing issues in a timely manner.  This will demonstrate the fact that I mean business and will do whatever it takes to insure the success of my students.

One Year

Goal:      Develop a foundation of trust and support that will allow for smooth transition into the changes I wish to make.  If all stakeholders are convinced that I am committed to the greater good of our district, they will be more open to these changes.

Objectives:
·         Prioritize my list of concerns.
·         Determine the appropriate timeline for beginning to address these areas of concern.
·         Spend much time with principals and other staff members to gauge their support of my proposed changes.
·         Be alert and aware of the expectations of the school board and be certain they are supportive of the changes I wish to make.
·         Celebrate the successes of the past year and recognize the contribution of each staff member.
